Even though it came in at #5 be sure to check out the great group of square merit badges that are featured in this post. The Philmont lot that comes in at #1 was part of a large group of Philmont Scout Ranch memorabilia that sold recently on eBay. I know that the boy scout patch collage at the bottom is also a must see. Toss in a lot of Boy Scout pins including an Eagle Scout medal and several BSA council red & white strips and you have a solid line up!
I've got a few more catching up blogs to post this week starting with this one that captures some great mixed lots that sold right at the tail end of 2011. You might remember seeing some of these in the Hot Finds but its always interesting to go back and look at the final results.
The old saying about Cracker Jack was there was a surprise in side but you just didn't know what it was until you opened it up. As a kid I was still of the generation that knew that so I want to use that metaphor to describe today's picks for top selling mixed lots on eBay. Take for example the #2 auction here (with the larger thumbnail pic). If you look at first glance you would not get too excited. Schiff patch and bolo - boring. 1964 Jamboree neckerchief - please not another one of those! But once you click over you will find the surprise inside! The same is true for the other auctions featured here.
The mixed lots in this blog post are worth talking about. At first you might suspect that the same sellers had these two listed. Its not often you see the words "huge" used in a Boy Scout auction title. However, these were indeed by two different sellers. I wrote a little bit about the #2 lot that got 19 bids in the Hot Finds. I knew that with a Lodge 104 S1 and some other good pieces in there it was bound to do well. I think finishing at $500+ qualifies as a good day. Click on these other top selling OA auctions from recent closed listings to see what the bidding go up to.
I am probably going to do a separate blog post just featuring these great OA blankets out of IL but for today I'll include this whopper in with some other nice mixed lots that sold last week on eBay. The other interesting group that has a story is the lot of 45 lodge flaps. Those of you who have been watching eBay for a long time will remember seeing similar lots like this selling over the last couple of years. It appears as if somebody got into a big stash of flaps that were made by Midwest Swiss and has been selling these pieces off in blocks for a while. I know that at one time a group of flaps from my home lodge came out of this group and the group was more than 100+ strong. These are all legitimate issues but kinda stinks if its your lodge and the market for that particular patch gets flooded like Katrina. Oh well, its still fun to see what's selling these days on eBay so check out the rest of these picks.
Have you ever wondered about the cross section of buyers that go big on mixed lots like the ones included here. What percentage of bidders are trying to break up the items for resale and what number are out to get some nice items for a collection? I almost never bid on these listings myself because its seems like I never have enough time to list the items I already have sitting around. However, its awfully temping sometimes when they are this good.
