I thought why not mix in some great OA neckerchiefs with slides and other BSA neckerchiefs for a quick post. As your roving Boy Scout patch collector reporter its my job to fill you in on the best closed auctions in the Boy Scout category of eBay. I do believe all of these picks are worth a second look. Heck if you just consider how many bids some of these listings got I would look at them for that alone - but I promise they finished strong.
There have been a ton of Max Silber belt buckles on eBay recently and that got me to thinking that I didn't really know the story behind this great Scouter and craftsman. After checking in on Wikipedia I learned a lot. His first buckle was produced for the 1950 National Scout Jamboree as a friendship gift as he was the contingent Scoutmaster. Growing up a Scout Max earned the rank of Eagle Scout and the Explorer Silver Award. As an adult he was bestowed the Silver Beaver (Council level), Silver Antelope (Region level) and Silver Buffalo (National level). Max went on to make over fifty buckles to commemorate significant Scouting events such as National and World Jamborees. You can red more about Max Silber on Wikipedia.
I posted a while back that an orange border 2011 WJ patch sold for over $600 which at the time was way more than any 2010 National Jamboree patch ever went for at auction. Well how did I miss this yellow badge (and several identical copies of it) that sold for way more than $600? The rest of this blog post includes some vintage pieces that are more than seventy years old including some of the rare shoulder ribbons from the 1930s.
I know that most collectors that love their memorabilia with little fdls on them dont' get excited when they see odd-ball items like a Boy Scout lamp. However, you would be wrong to think that those items are not both rare and valuable. Take for example the signed autograph of BSA founding father Daniel Beard. Not all of us are into that but you should have seen the bidding on this picture that sold recently on eBay. So I present here five auctions that are a little more unusual (ok not so much the WJ lot) but you get the idea.
There were a couple of really good prewar World Jamboree issues that sold on eBay last week and I wanted to be sure to highlight them on the blog. All of the auctions I've got featured here were competitive listings that went for big money. Its sorta strange to put the brand new 2011 issues in with these vintage pieces but when you are a modern rarity this is your chance to shine. Click on the links to see how these listings did on eBay.
I kept an eagle eye on auctions after the 2010 National Jamboree. Heck I even blogged about it on a website created just for that purpose at www.2010Jambo.com. But I don't think any of the patches from that Jamboree can touch the price some collectors are willing to pay for the "King's" issue from the event held this summer in Sweden. It just goes to show you that its not just Americans that appreciate their cloth. Click on these recently closed listings to see some big movers from that event.
