I have been very consistent each week putting out the Top 10 list. However there are lots of patches that were big sellers that didn't quite crack the Top 10. In this post I'm attempting to catch up with some of those items that deserve a shout out!
I don't think many of my Hot Finds readers will have missed the $15k jacket that sold on eBay last week. However, how many of you saw the three 1933 World Jamboree items that were also big sellers? I surely didn't which is saying a lot considering I write a 3/week hobby newsletter focusing on live auctions. I think when you click over you'll discover that my auction only rule is what kept these off my radar. I feel sure the Wapiti flap was in the newsletter. All together these five auctions make up the TOP-5 from the Boy Scout category of eBay.
I don't seem to do a Top-5 overall blog post every week but today I wanted to be sure and include the big blankets that sold out of Illinois recently on eBay. These blankets had many collectors drooling and wondering where the frenzied bidding would end. In case you missed it click the links below so you can see for yourself. The other three listings included here are not too shabby either. How is it that an item from the 2011 WJ still makes these lists months later?
It was a big week for old timers from the OA lodge in Riverside, California. Tahquitz Lodge 127 which later merged to become Cahuilla 127 pulled off an unusual feat by claiming the top 2 spots in the Boy Scout category of eBay. Not surprising it was the boys from TSPA who had these killer OA pieces and with just a couple of bids between them you can be sure the minimum bid wasn't cheap. A little more interesting auction may have been the mysterious sterling silver pin that came in at #3. Anybody want to tell the rest of us what that guy is? I know I see one of the Philmont Ranger patches on eBay about every week or two so why do they still keep selling for sky high prices? I wouldn't think the market is too deep for VERY expensive Philmont issues. The list is rounded out today by some really classic pieces that came together. The pair of War Service medals would look great in any collection.
I always track interesting mixed lots in the Boy Scout category of eBay because you never know how they are going to end. The special treat is finding ones that look like a pile of junk save for a few killer pieces that knock the closing price out of the park. All of these recent auctions on eBay were home runs and I'm curious if you can figure out why. Some are pretty obvious but there are a few sneakers in here.
This blog post has a simple premise - what were the 5 best auctions on eBay last week? They represent a diverse range of collectibles and include 2 listings that went for over $1k+. Can you spot the key pieces in the 40 patch lot pictured below? I don't think its the lodge 470 flaps! The two medals that made this list did very well in competitive auctions. Meanwhile in the #4 spot the WJ patch from 1947 made the list thanks to the union of one high minimum bid and one willing bidder. Rounding out the list was the top selling OA single piece from the Boy Scout category.
